This is another card made by the Circuit Scribe conductive pen, which can play a song and flash the LEDs. The circuit is based on the Attiny85 microcontroller to make the sound and control the LEDs. The microcontroller only has 5 useable pins, 1 for the buzzer (speaker) and 4 for the LEDs, so there are total of 12 LEDs which can be controlled with 4 pins using the Charlie-multiplexing method. This is my present for my love for this Valentine day. I was always want to build a circuit on a paper craft, but I don’t like to mess with the wiring. Until I found a solution: the Circuit Scribe conductive pen, which allows you to make an electronic circuit on a paper ! But to build a practical circuit (not just to turn on a LED), this mighty guy will do the heavy work: the Silhouette Portrait. It’s basically a 2D plotter and cutter, just mount the pen in there, load the circuit traces and click the “Cut” button. The circuit is designed using Altium Designer, which all components are surface-mounted and the trace width is set as 0.6 mm.

This car was a birthday present for my son, a sleek styling and powerful ride on car, which can be manually or wirelessly operated. Although running on a single 6V lead-acid battery, the motor is quite strong and enough to carry an one-year-old baby at 3 km/h for over one hour. The wireless controller is a nice feature, which allows parents to directly control the car have fun with the baby, however the controller only has a limited function: forward/backward and left/right at full speed. Since the motor is switched on and off by a mechanical relay rather than MOSFET transistors, the speed of the car is fixed at a maximum level and that is uncomfortable for the baby when starting up.

I have recently received a RC car from Hobbyking, the 1/10 Quanum Skull Crusher 2WD Brushless Monster Truck, very powerful, very fast and it actually roars like a monster. Comes with a 35A (190A burst) brushless ESC and a 3650 size 2700KV brushless inrunner motor, these parts are getting very hot when running (and the ESC needs an extra cooling fan).

This is a birthday gift for my wife, which based on the idea of Chan to make a SD card music player. The circuit simply consists of an Atiny85 microcontroller, SD card slot, low-dropout voltage regulator, 3.7V Lipo battery, battery charger IC and few resistors and caps. The circuit board can be nicely fitted inside a small box, which is served as a base of the flower, and the “flower” is actually the speaker.
